We are so happy to feature Marina who will present the project titled, Women in Technology Bootcamp, at our event on March 24th, 2019!  Read more about the project below:

Project Description

Women in Technology Oslo organizes hands-on workshops where you learn and practice new skills in various fields of technology. Examples of previous topics are web development, machine learning, VR and AR. Each workshop is led by an experienced instructor from leading tech companies such as Accenture, Bouvet, Microsoft, Bekk, Finn and many others.

This year we are presenting a new approach to technical training – Weekend Bootcamps. Women in Technology Oslo Bootcamp will consist of 16 hours of live training over the weekend. A professional instructor will guide the participants through the fundamentals of front-end development. As a result, each participant will create their first ReactJS application, which will act as a portfolio project when applying for a job.

Why does this idea matter to you?

Technical skills such as software development, data analytics, testing, etc. are one the most demanding skills today that can help in creating significant products for people. I believe that leaving the most important job for the only man is not fair. In addition, being a front-end developer myself, and the only woman in our development team, I believe that bringing more diversity into the workplace will increase productivity and performance.

How will you idea make Oslo a better place?

First and foremost, the project is in line with the government goal of engaging more women in technology. Second, the project will affect the employment situation in Oslo.

How will you use the micro-grant funding to realize your concept?

We will use it to partly cover the expenses of a professional instructor for the first Bootcamp.
The initial idea is to have all the Bootcamps free for the participants and to get sponsorship from our partners to cover the expenses.
