Well, folks, we made it.  Oslo soup’s second event is in the books!  And what a journey!  Since our last event, we have raised nearly 8 000 NOK to support community-based initiatives here in Oslo.  At each event, we have welcomed crowds at each event who joined us to listen, eat, vote and celebrate.

Last Sunday, at MESH, we welcomed four incredible ideas.  The first, Shood, featured Hoang and Stian who want to develop a food sharing platform for the eaters and the cookers within student communities.  They hope to make home cooking accessible while reducing unnecessary food waste.  As you can see in this photo, we did not have a shy audience!  Great questions were posed and answered following each pitch.

The second pitch, We are Oslo, was made by Ørjan.  He shared about the photo- video- project which began recently in Oslo about identity, diversity and integration in Oslo.  he project is a photographic journey with the subway line number 2 through Oslo with the desire to overcome some of the many prejudices that exist, and to strengthen the sense of belonging among city residents.

The third pitch featured Deborah and her Fashion for Good idea.  Deborah is a style consultant in Oslo and hopes to use her skills to work with support groups and helping participants with colours, styles and shapes that suit their style and personality, making them feel comfortable and happy about their image.

15-49

The fourth and final pitch was from Skala Operakor.  Nadia shared her passion for opera and how being a member of Skala Operakor has impacted her.  The choir hopes to continue to make opera accessible while developing its singers and performing for the Oslo community.

We also had a lovely update from our first oslo soup winner, Jessica.  She is still visiting the islands along the fjords and collecting the sea plastic.  She even shared a giant jar of sea plastic during the event so we could all see it up close!

15-90

After we listened, we ate incredible soup and devoured baked goods (thanks to our partners).  During this time, we had an opportunity to network and meet new people.  Attendees chatted with each other, with pitchers while sharing their common interest in community.  Then, of course, we all voted.

15-100

After counting all of the votes (and recounting because it was SO CLOSE), the winner was Deborah with Fashion for Good!  She took home a whopping 3982 NOK to grow her idea.  Have you seen her acceptance speech?  It’s magic!

Go, on smile… you can’t help it.  I know I certainly can’t.  It’s contagious – you’re now an official SOUPie 🙂  We did not do this on our own.  This event was made possible by volunteers, partners including MESH who lent us their incredible backyard for the event.  We are so thankful to everyone involved.

Did you attend our event?  We would love to see your photos and hear about your experience!  Share on Facebook or send us an email at info@oslosoup.org.

Now, the only thing left to do is pull out the planner (aka your smartphone) and write the third oslo soup into your calendar.  Join us on December 11th at Smelteverket, located in Mathallen.  Doors open 13:30. 🙂
